Record Keeping?

Always keep in mind what records you are keeping, who for and why.

Mostly for yourself, children, school, parents maybe for LEA.

  • Keep it manageable - it must work for you and shouldn't be an unnecessary overhead.

  • Where appropriate, try to involve the children in recording what they have done or know.

e.g. Times Tables, Spelling scores, Activity records such as ICT tasks, reward charts.

  • When making assessments of children, does it need to be complicated and involved - strokes and dashes...

  • The school will probably have a big say on what needs to be recorded - but don't just do it for the sake of doing it.

  • I found that Half-termly/Termly statements about each child worked well for me, esp. when report writing.
