- Check
school policy on rules (some schools don't
encourage use of rules)
- Think
first about the purpose of having
rules in your classroom. Make the children
aware of why rules are important.
- Try
to implement these when the need to
arises - children respond better when 'real'
incidents arise.
- Involve
children in deciding on what rules are
necessary - you should be mediator, not
dictator! Remember who the rules are for!
- Try
to avoid the Don't.... scenario - some
children switch off, so make them
positive and polite.
Remember
- it's not just about rules, but behaviour
strategies.
i.e.
What are you going to do if someone calls
out?
Have strategies ready to use.
