Classroom Layout

A perfect classroom layout is an impossibility for most - but experiment with various table arrangements before the children start.

Group / Rows / Mix of both ?

This largely depends on your teaching style and preference to how you want your children to work.

Some things to consider...

  • Where possible try to seat most children so they are facing the whiteboard. Always ensure those who aren't turn their chairs around when needed.

  • Look out for 'trouble spots' or sources of conflict - e.g. tables too close together.

Plan a seating arrangement first
vs.
Let children decide - then plan?

In both instances it is inevitable that you will want to move children around.

You might choose to encourage that if children behave themselves they will be allowed to sit where they like?

Sit children where they work best...
...parents like to hear this too!
