Researchers at Stepping Stones participate in study into playing games online

During the half term break, our pupils engaged in a research study looking at whether strategy games can support learning, particularly in historical studies. Pupils took on the role of 'researcher' during the game play and later, when answering questions.

Using iChat technology, the researchers, quickly established a connection and dialog with three other participants, each situated in different towns in the UK.

Sasha Millwood was the principle organiser and soon rallied the troops! It was decided that Rise of Nations would be the game of choice on which to base this research.

After some (!) initial connection problems, the game commenced, and the pupils spent several hours outwitting each other and attempting various strategies.

One of our pupils, Dan, commented...

"I am having the time of my life here"

It is hoped that we will find another opportunity when we can repeat this experience, perhaps finding an afternoon or evening to gather once again.
